This preserve contains over 4000 acres of paved and unpaved trails (including the Poplar Creek Trail System), prairies, oak woodlands and ponds in Elgin, Hoffman Estates and Streamwood, Illinois.
There are a number of entrances to the preserve. Main roads going through the preserve are Shoe Factory Road and Gold Road (east-west) and Barrington Road, Bartlett Road and Sutton Road (north-south). A detailed map showing parking areas may be found at here/<.a>
38 miles from the center of town
There are accessible parking spots and accessible portable bathrooms at Barrington Road Pond (open April 1-October 31) and Poplar Creek Model Airplane Flying Field. An accessible picnic grove with shelter is located at Barrington Road Pond and may be reserved online at here. Paved trails are generally accessible.

The preserve is named after Arthur L. Janura, Sr. who was the Cook County Forest Preserve Superintendent for decades.
